Autumn Escapes & Christmas Markets

Autumn is a great time to get away for a break. Many cities are less busy than in the summer, and depending on when you choose to travel, they may have the added attraction of Christmas markets and opportunities to buy unusual presents. We have chosen three of our favourites for you to consider.

Madrid

Madrid is a great city to visit at any time of year. In autumn and winter, temperatures are lower for sightseeing. If it does happen to rain, then there is still plenty to do indoors with amazing art galleries, including Prado, museums and palaces to visit. The food scene is excellent, and in general, you will find prices lower than in the UK. We can recommend and book them for you. In addition, in December, a number of Christmas markets spring up throughout the city, the biggest of which is in Plaza Mayor from 25 November to the end of December.

Indicative price from £998 for 2 nights. Includes flights with hand luggage, transfers and accommodation only at 5* Hotel Unico.

Rome and Naples

Another fine choice for a break away. The attractions of Rome are only too well known. The break we have put together includes a three-night stay in Rome, including a hop-on hop-off city tour, as well as a day visit to Naples by train. In the afternoon you will enjoy a food tour before returning to Rome. There will be free time in both cities to discover the special attractions that spring up at Christmastime. Piazza Navona is the largest in Rome, and of course, the Vatican has a special atmosphere around Christmas. In Naples you can find a range of unusual ceramic Christmas gifts and ornaments.

Indicative price from £925 for 3 nights. Includes flights with hand luggage, transfers and B&B accommodation only at 4* Hotel Glam in Rome or similar, plus other extras as including high speed train day trip to Naples with walking tour and street food.

Aix en Provence

Aix is clearly a smaller city than our other selections, and yet it has its own long history and charms. During December, the Christmas market covers the length of Aix’s main boulevard, Cours Mirabeau. Wooden chalets are decorated by local craftsmen creating a special atmosphere in the city. It is a fantastic place to pick up handcrafted gifts, local delicacies, and regional specialities. Of course, the Old Town has many more boutiques in the surrounding streets, as well as delightful French restaurants. All you need for a wonderful break.

Indicative price from £849 for 3 nights. Includes flights with hand luggage, transfers and accommodation only at 5* Hotel Pigonnet.
