KwaZulu-Natal’s coast offers stylish resorts, golden beaches, scenic drives and many activities including the annual sardine run.
One of the principal attractions is the Banana Express, a steam train which runs through banana plantations, sand dunes and coastal lowlands. Oribi Gorge is a perfect picnic site and the village of Umkomaas is a world class scuba diving destination. Worth seeing is the annual sardine run which brings millions of sardines inshore followed by sharks and gannets.
The coast is a golfing Mecca and scenic Umtamvuna Nature Reserve is a birders’ and bikers’ paradise and home to a colony of Cape vultures.
The beaches are golden and sandy and there are numerous water sport activities to enjoy including snorkelling and scuba diving. There are lots of luxurious hotels to choose from and there is a casino at Port Edward.
